The leadership of Ukraine drew attention to the mistakes of US intelligence, which underestimated the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU). The Politico newspaper wrote about this on February 2.
“Ukrainians note that US intelligence on their military capabilities has consistently been wrong for almost a year. [спецоперации]”, – the publication says.
It is not specified what mistakes the American side made.
It is also reported that the administration of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was furious because of the statement by the head of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley about the difficulties that the Ukrainian army will face in 2023.
On January 20, the general said that it would be very difficult for the Ukrainian army to oust the Russian military from the entire territory of Ukraine before the end of 2023.
Earlier, on December 5, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that now Washington is primarily seeking to help Ukraine return the territories occupied by Russia after February 24. At the same time, he avoided answering the question of whether the “return of Crimea” is included in these tasks, adding that the Ukrainians themselves decide “where they want to go and when.”
Western countries have stepped up military support for Ukraine against the backdrop of a special operation to protect the Donbass, which Russia announced on February 24. The Russian authorities, in turn, have repeatedly emphasized that pumping weapons into Kyiv actually turns NATO into a side of the conflict.
