Social networking sites in Saudi Arabia were buzzing with a video documenting the reception and welcome of Sergeant Rawan Al Damjan of the Air Force, the Indian nationals who were evacuated from Sudan, in the “Urdu” language.
Al Damjan appeared in the rolling clip, giving them gifts and answering all their inquiries in the “Urdu” language.
72-hour truce
It is noteworthy that the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces announced Thursday their agreement to a 72-hour truce, after Saudi-American mediation. However, the clashes soon returned and erupted since Friday morning between the two parties, especially in Omdurman and Khartoum North, as well as the vicinity of the presidential palace.
Since April 15, the day the fighting broke out between the two major military forces, the country has witnessed about 5 truces, but they were all violated by both sides.
Meanwhile, thousands of people have fled from Khartoum and other states towards safer areas, amid a shortage of food, drinking water, and even electricity and fuel.
Evacuation of diplomats and nationals
It is noteworthy that the conflict in Sudan prompted most Western countries to expedite the evacuation of their diplomats and nationals.
Several countries evacuated their citizens by air and sea, while others headed to Port Sudan on the Red Sea, about 800 kilometers from Khartoum by land.
While Saudi Arabia was at the forefront of the countries that evacuated its citizens, as well as nationals of foreign countries, as it has so far managed to transfer about 2,991 people (119 Saudi citizens, and 2,872 people belonging to 80 nationalities), according to the Saudi Press Agency, “SPA”.
