In Odisha, the incentive for those who marry a disabled person has been increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2.5 lakh.
Bhaskar Sharma, Commissioner, Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Alternative Skills in the State of Odisha, has written a letter to all District Collectors. It says:
He is given an incentive of Rs. 50,000 to encourage those who marry an alternatively abled person. It was brought to the notice of the department that there were some practical difficulties in implementing this plan. Therefore, this incentive has been increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2.5 lakh. This incentive will be given if one of the male or female couple is a substitute. At the same time, the bride and groom must be 21 and 18 years old on the wedding day.
