New Delhi: India has advanced to the 3rd position in the world ranking list released by the International Boxing Association.
India is ranked 3rd in the ranking with 36,300 ranking points due to the high performance of Indian boxers. Kazakhstan is at the top with 48,100 points, followed by Uzbekistan at 2nd place with 37,600 points.
India has seen progress in the ranking leaving behind countries like USA and Cuba which have strong players. Boxing powerhouse USA ranked 4th and Cuba 9th.
Indian boxing has seen an unprecedented rise in recent years, consistently placing in the top 5 in global competitions such as the World Championships, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. Indian boxers have won 16 medals in the last two Commonwealth Games. Also Indian boxers have won 140 medals in international competitions since 2008.
Indian boxers have won 16 elite world championship medals since 2016. Boxing Association of India will host the Women’s World Boxing Championship from March 15 to 26. This is the 3rd time that this series is being held in India.
Boxing Federation of India president Ajay Singh said in a statement, “It is a moment of great achievement to have improved to the 3rd position in the world rankings. A few years ago we were at number 44. Now from there to the third position, Indian boxing has taken a giant leap.
Boxing Federation of India is working hard to fulfill its mission of making India a boxing powerhouse. This ranking indicates India’s rapid growth in boxing,” he said.
