New Delhi: The 2-day meeting of the ‘India’ alliance, which will begin on Thursday in Mumbai, is likely to formulate strategies for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In particular, block allocation will be discussed.
26 opposition parties have formed an alliance under the name ‘India’ to defeat the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in next year’s Lok Sabha elections. The first meeting was held in Patna, Bihar on 23rd June and the 2nd meeting was held in Bengaluru, capital of Karnataka on 17th and 18th of last month. The next meeting will be held tomorrow (August 31) and the day after tomorrow (September 1) in Mumbai. The third meeting of the opposition parties will be held at the Grand Hyatt, a luxury hotel on the outskirts of Mumbai.
Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav reached Mumbai on Tuesday to participate in the two-day meeting. It is expected that the meeting will play an important role in discussing the constituency allocation for the elections. Similarly, the issues within the parties and the needs of the coordination committee are likely to be discussed before the elections.
As PL Punia of the Congress Party has said that the Prime Minister will be decided only after the victory of the opposition parties in the Lok Sabha elections, the discussion on the Prime Minister candidate of the ‘India’ alliance will not take place in this meeting. The logo of the ‘India’ alliance will be unveiled after this Mumbai meeting.
The alliance leaders have decided to hold talks with the parties in the India alliance, consult on seat allocation and appoint a coordinator for 3 or 4 states. A final decision in this regard is to be taken in the Mumbai meeting. Perhaps if Nitish Kumar is chosen as the All India National Coordinator, the post of chief minister is expected to be handed over to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, who currently holds the post of deputy chief minister.
But, “I wanted to unite the opposition parties against the BJP. It is noteworthy that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar clearly stated that I have no desire to become the coordinator of the India Alliance.
This is the third meeting after the ‘India’ alliance moved a no-confidence motion in Parliament against the ruling BJP.
Consultation led by BJP: Meanwhile, the ruling BJP alliance in Maharashtra is also holding a two-day consultative meeting in Mumbai. In this, the distribution of constituencies for the Lok Sabha elections is discussed. The first meeting will be held tomorrow (August 31) after dinner at the official residence of the state Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The meeting to be held the day after tomorrow (September 1) will discuss the formulation of strategies for various areas in the state. These meetings will be chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar. It is noted that there are 48 Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra.
