India currently has 114 rating points while England, which is in second place, has 113 rating points. While Australia reached third place with 112 rating points, Kiwis fell to fourth place with 111 points. England will soon play a three ODI series against South Africa. If this series can be swept cleanly, the English team will push back India and reach the top position in ODIs.
Team India is already at the top in T20. If you reach the number one position in Tests, you will get a chance to be at the top in three formats at the same time. If Rohit Sena wants to reach the top spot in the long format as well, he will have to win 2-0 against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, which will start on February 9. If Australia wins one match in the four-test series, India should beat Aussies by 3-1.
Then it stands as the number one team in all three formats. But in the meantime, England should not clean sweep South Africa in ODIs. England and India are behind in T20s as well. While India has 267 rating points, England has 266 rating points. To consolidate the number one position in the short format, India will have to repeat the result of the ODI series in the T20 series against New Zealand.
