NordPass has released the 5th edition of its password study in India, revealing the apathy of Indians towards protecting their data. It warned that such weak passwords would also lead to an increase in cybercrime.
Not only in India, the practice of giving weak passwords has grown worldwide. % of the world 31 percent people have given ‘12345’ password. These numbers have become people’s favorite passwords. Some also give ‘123456789’. While most of them give ‘12345’, some others show their impossible negligence, irresponsibility and laziness by giving ‘000000’ password!
Some netizens also give passwords in the name of their country and city. Indians are no exception. Most of the passwords in India are ‘India@123’. India has the highest number of people with this password. Globally, ‘barcelona’ is the most used password in Spain. The Nord Pass study report said that ‘kalamata’ is the most used password in Greece.
Most people give very weak passwords to their OTT streaming accounts. Because most of the OTT accounts are shared by many people. Thus, they have given easy passwords so that password sharing among friends is easy and not forgotten. However, people only give very strong passwords for financial management accounts!
Most of the people stick to the same pattern when they have to change the password from time to time. Some words, symbols and numbers are used with little change. Among these, the word admin is the most used word, the research said. In many countries of the world, including India, the use of the word admin is customary.
Last year, most people globally made the word ‘password’ their password! This practice was also prevalent in India. Along with this, ‘pass@123’ and ‘password@123’ were also widely used. This practice continues this year as well.
The ironic and shocking fact is that globally It’s easy enough to crack 70% of people’s passwords in a second!
