Production increased by 2.90 per cent to 31.9 million tonnes in the previous fiscal. In addition, the country produced about 40.2 million tonnes, compared to 8.3 million tonnes in mills and other sources. The figures were released by Aista, a sugar trading body.
However, it is estimated that this will complete the supply of sugar for domestic consumption. Last year it was 27 million tonnes.
Sugar is mainly traded from October to September. According to Aista (All India Sugar Trade Association), exports in the 2021-22 financial year will fall to 6 million tonnes from the previous year.
According to the trade body, real exports this year are comparable to domestic sugar and international sugar prices.
