Indigenization in more employment sectors; Saudi Arabia’s new decision is a setback for expats

Saudi: Indigenization is going to take place in more areas in Saudi. A special team has been appointed to look into the violation of the repatriation directives that have just been announced. The new system is set up to report current affairs and submit that report. Ministry of Human Resource and Social Development informed about this.

Indigenization has been announced in the areas of tourism, media and consulting. This was stated by Majeed Al Dawi, Under Secretary, Special Section, Ministry of Indigenization and Women Empowerment. Saudi Arabia is bringing new projects as part of Vision 2030. The last time indigenization was in the areas of restaurants, cafes, malls, supermarkets and dentistry.

Saudi Arabia has decided to intensify repatriation and recruit more expatriates. It is determined to surpass all existing economic indicators. The Saudis are aiming for bigger projects for the welfare of Saudi workers recruited as part of the repatriation. The aim is to achieve excellence in most areas by highlighting efficiency.

Indigenization in the private sector increased from 21.5 per cent to 23.6 per cent in one year. It was reported yesterday that there will be a huge increase in the number of citizens working in the private sector in 2021. The number of private sector nationals in Saudi Arabia has risen to 1.9 million. The number of Indigenous men and women working in the private sector reached 1,908,613.
