The day before yesterday, the activities of the 20th edition of the World Pencak Silat Championship, one of the most prominent mixed martial arts competitions, were concluded, in addition to the fifth edition of the World Junior Championship.
Indonesia ranked first in all categories, winning 11 gold, seven silver and five bronze medals, followed by Vietnam with 10 gold, three silver and three bronze medals, while Malaysia won six gold, nine silver and four bronze medals.
Indonesia also won 11 gold medals, three silvers and two bronzes in the junior category, followed by Singapore with six gold medals, seven silver medals and three bronze medals, and Malaysia came third with five gold medals, four silver medals and four bronze medals.
The tournament was held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC), with the participation of more than 1,100 athletes, coaches, judges and officials from 57 countries, under the supervision of the International Pensak Silat Federation, in cooperation with the Ministry of Sports, the Emirates Sports for All Federation, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia to the country.
This year, the tournament included three main categories: “combat matches,” “artistic performances,” and “special performances.” The participants were divided into categories including “pre-junior,” “junior,” “adult,” and “adult.” Professors”, with their classification according to weights.
Minister of State Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh handed over the “General Champion” award for the fifth edition of the World Junior Pencak Silat Championship to the winning Indonesian team. Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono also presented the “General Champion” award for the 20th edition of the World Pencak Silat Championship to the Indonesian team as well.
The winners were honored in the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the country, Hussein Bagis, the Vice President of the Emirates Sports for All Federation, Saeed Al Ajel, and the Vice Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Muhammad Sadri.
