On December 27, the helicopter made a hard landing near Izhevsk. According to the data of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the board flew over the pipeline. Immediately before the loss of communication with the helicopter, the aircraft commander reported an emergency. After the fall, the pilot was also able to get in touch and report the crash.
Rescuers went to the crash site. It was difficult to find the Mi-2 due to the severe frost, which complicated the work of the rescuers. After finding the vehicle, the pilot and the passenger, who were trapped in the cockpit, were removed and handed over to the medics.
On December 28, the head of the republic, Alexander Brechalov, said that the pilot of the Mi-2 helicopter had died while being examined by doctors. This information was later confirmed by the Republican Ministry of Health.
Also on that day, the REN TV channel, referring to the negotiations of the crew with the dispatcher, reported that after the crash of the Mi-2 helicopter in Udmurtia, the pilot and passenger were in a state of shock. It is known that the pilot was unable to transmit his coordinates or indicate landmarks, which complicated the search.
As the colleagues of the deceased said, he was a very experienced pilot – he spent thousands of hours in the air and flew hundreds of flights. Previously, the pilot served in military aviation. A relative of the deceased pilot described him as an educated and disciplined person. He clarified that the pilot’s mother had not yet been informed about the tragedy.
