Hyderabad: Kolkata Knight Riders beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 5 runs in today’s IPL match.
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders clash in today’s match of IPL cricket series. Kolkata won the toss and elected to bat, Kolkata team fielded first. The opening did not last for the Kolkata team. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz was ducked out and Venkatesh Iyer walked for 7 runs.
Jason Roy was bowled out for 20, while skipper Nitish Rana played brilliantly and got out for 42 off 31 balls.
Andrew Russell scored 24 runs, Sunil Narine scored 1 run, Shardul Thakur scored 8 runs, but Ringu Singh played responsibly and added 46 runs. Kolkata team added 171 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
The opening did not give hand to the Hyderabad team who entered the field with the target of winning if they score 172 runs. Mayank Agarwal, who started confidently with fours and sixes, fell for the first wicket in 18 runs and Abhishek Sharma walked in 9 runs.
Rahul Tripathi returned to the pavilion with 20 runs and Harry Brooke was dismissed for no runs. Even though Hyderabad’s top order was not stable, captain Aiden Markram played responsibly. He was supported by wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen. Markram, who had scored 41 runs shortly after Klaassen’s dismissal of 36 runs, also lost his wicket.
However, Abdul Samad tried to lead the team to victory. But, it didn’t work out. Needing 9 runs to win in the last over, Varun was caught trying to hit Chakraborty for a six. He had scored 21 runs.
After this, Varun Chakraborty bowled effectively and prevented a six from the last ball, even though he needed 6 runs to win. Kolkata won by 5 runs. Vaibhav Arora and Shardul Thakur took two wickets each for Kolkata.
