If a player with the sixteenth PGE Ekstraliga run average, which was 1.968 points/run, drops out of the best league in the world – it must be really bad. Nicki Pedersen infected clubs with his injury-prone nature, advanced age for an athlete, disastrous end of the season and fake defects. The three-time individual world champion did not have any offer from PGE Ekstraliga, although initially he was linked with the then potential newcomer – Enea Falubaz Zielona Góra.
Pedersen even made offers to top league clubs of PLN 700,000 for signing a contract and PLN 7,000 for each point scored, which means he wanted to agree to worse conditions than he had in GKM Grudziądz.
First-league presidents were holding their heads
Initially, several presidents of first-league clubs were interested in Pedersen, but when they heard what amounts he required, they quickly cut off the talks. Ultimately Nicki Pedersen found employment with a first-league newcomer from Rzeszów. In the capital of Podkarpacie he is to earn PLN 5,000 for each point scored. The Dane also agreed to the offer of PLN 300,000 for signing the contract.
Direction? Bush league
An episode in a first-league club at such an advanced age (Pedersen will be 47 next season) distances the Dane from the vision of returning to the top league tracks. Former Polish representative Jan Krzystyniak expressed a strong opinion about the Dane.
There is no need to even think about any Ekstraliga! With this kind of driving skills, Pedersen is suitable for second-league clubs. He should think about ending his career before it’s too late. I’m surprised that any president even wanted him
~ said Jan Krzystyniak
Opinions about Nicki Pedersen’s start are divided. Some say that he will be a sure point of the team and a top player in the league. Others, in turn, remember his fake defects and do not predict a very good future for him in the Rzeszów team.
