Tehran: An Israeli spy has been hanged in Iran, the country’s state TV reported.
In a news published by Iran’s state television yesterday, “A person (unspecified) associated with foreign intelligence agencies, including the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, was imprisoned. He was sentenced to death for leaking classified information about Iran’s security.
In this case, he was hanged in the Jahedan city of South-East Sistan Balochistan province. In April 2022, Iranian intelligence officials said that 3 people related to Mossad were arrested. In this case, it is not known whether the person who was hanged was one of these three. Iran and Israel accuse each other of spying on their country.
The two countries have been engaged in a shadow war for years. Israel views Iran as its biggest threat. It has repeatedly threatened to take military action against Iran to prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons. But Iran has denied the allegations of nuclear weapons. It has also retaliated that strict action will be taken against any encroachment.
Iran has been announcing from time to time that it has arrested people who spied for foreign countries including the United States and Israel. In 2020, Iran executed a man accused of leaking information about a top Iranian military official to the US and Israel. The officer was later killed in a US drone strike in Iraq.
