Lebanon. After a long conflict, the fighting in Lebanon has stopped after Israel and the terrorist group Hezbollah agreed on a ceasefire. The ceasefire officially came into effect at 4 am on Wednesday. Along with this, thousands of people displaced from Lebanon during the fighting have agreed to return home.
The ceasefire has been confirmed in a joint statement by America and France. As soon as this was announced, reconstruction work started in Dahiya, South Beirut. The headquarters of Hezbollah is in Dahiya itself. At present only a few people are living in Dahiya which was once densely populated.
From here in October, 52-year-old Mohammed Awada fled with his two children to Tripoli, a city in northern Lebanon. His apartment was destroyed in the attack. As soon as he received the news of ceasefire, he said that he would return to Dahiya and start a new life there. Meanwhile, the Lebanese army has asked displaced civilians to wait for the withdrawal of Israeli troops before returning to towns and villages in southern Lebanon.
Also warned about the dangers of unexploded weapons. Lebanese officials said that displaced families have started returning to southern and eastern Lebanon just hours after the ceasefire took effect. At present, 10 thousand soldiers of the United Nations Interim Peacekeeping Force are present in Lebanon. Iraqi army spokesman Avichai Adrai said that according to the terms of the ceasefire, the country’s troops are present in southern Lebanon. Adrai warned Lebanese displaced people not to return immediately.
