Israel will consider the possibility of transferring a package of military equipment to Ukraine. This was announced on Saturday, February 4, by the Prime Minister of the Jewish state, Benjamin Netanyahu, in an interview with the LCI television channel.
“The issue of arms supplies was considered and rejected by the previous Israeli government. I will study this topic and give an answer that I consider acceptable, ”he said.
According to Netanyahu, in this situation, the decision will be made taking into account the national interests of Israel. He also added that Jerusalem continues to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukrainian citizens.
Earlier, on February 1, Netanyahu said that Israel was discussing a possible transfer of the Iron Dome missile defense system to Ukraine. He recalled that the United States had already sent Kyiv “most” of the ammunition that had previously been in Israel, and stressed that this was a decision by Washington.
Also, the head of the Israeli Cabinet noted that he was ready to be an intermediary in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in case of receiving such a request.
In December 2022, Brigadier General Yakov Nagel, in an article for The National Interest, noted that Russia could intercept and study the Israeli Iron Dome missile defense systems, so Tel Aviv would not supply them to Kyiv after the United States decided to send Patriot anti-aircraft systems.
According to him, Israel itself needs an early replenishment of air defense units with Domes. He drew attention to the fact that the country would not spoil relations with Russia by sending weapons to Ukraine.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kyiv against the backdrop of a special operation to protect Donbass. The decision was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
