ISRO has been launching small, medium and medium weight satellites through PSLV. 600 people had to work for 70 days to make this huge ship. However, this is the first time SSLV is being sent. A small satellite carrier can be designed by six scientists in 72 hours. The cost of this is Rs.30 crores. This 34 meter long and 2 meter diameter spacecraft can launch commercial satellites weighing between 10 and 500 kg into near earth orbit. The space sector can foster further collaboration between private Indian industry.
Evos-02, one of the two satellites sent into Ningi, weighs 140 kg. It is an earth observation satellite. It helps in providing internet connectivity in remote areas. Azadisat weighing 8 kg was created by 750 students from 75 government schools. It was created to mark the 75th Independence Anniversary, Azadika Amrit Mahotsav. The lifetime of this satellite is six months. It includes a recorded version of the national anthem sung by Rabindranath Tagore.
