Rs 10 lakh each was deposited in the salary account of the hospital staff. Funds for the Telangana government’s welfare scheme went to various accounts. On April 24, an employee of the SBI Rangareddy District Collectorate branch accidentally deposited Rs 1.50 crore in false accounts.

Out of the 15 persons who received Rs 10 lakh each in their account, 14 returned the money. But a lab technician named Mahesh could not refund the money. As soon as the mistake was discovered, the bank officials called the hospital staff and demanded a refund. The lab technician was not available on the phone and could not be reached for comment.
The employee misunderstood that Rs 10 lakh had been deposited in the account under some government scheme. Some of it was used to pay off debts. Mahesh has repaid Rs 6.70 lakh but still owes Rs 3.30 lakh to the bank. The bank official has lodged a complaint as the money was not refunded despite repeated requests. A case has been registered against him under Section 403 of the IPC.
Meanwhile, Saifabad police registered a case against the beneficiary but did not take any action against the SBI employee who caused confusion due to the error.
