The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) during the retreat to the LPR destroyed the most important bridge between Severodonetsk and Lisichansk. Dmitry Zimenkin, correspondent of the Izvestia TV channel, shared footage from the scene of the incident on September 4.
“This is the most important crossing between the two cities, which was destroyed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the retreat. They blew up two spans, collapsed immediately, thereby adding work to bridge builders. In the future, of course, this crossing will be restored, but not now – you need to wait until it is completely safe in the LPR. Therefore, shells continue to arrive in Lisichansk, unlike the same Severodonetsk, ”the correspondent said.
On August 30, Izvestia correspondent Linar Ginatullin showed the restoration of the bridge across the Seversky Donets in the Lugansk People’s Republic.
It could take months to restore the reinforced concrete structure, he said, so traffic has been put on the temporary crossing while the new 138-meter bridge is being built.
It is noted that it can withstand a load of 40 tons thanks to the supports, deepened into the bottom of the river with piles.
Despite constant shelling, logistics units of the Central Military District (TsVO) restored the bridge in just 10 days.
To get to a neighboring city, local residents used to have to make a detour of several tens of kilometers, but now people can drive safely. The supply of food, building materials and basic necessities has also improved.
On August 25, Murad Magomedov, an employee of Izvestia, showed a medical campus destroyed by militants in Severodonetsk, in which there was a building of a multidisciplinary hospital, a maternity hospital and other medical buildings. A local resident shared that the Ukrainian formations destroyed all the buildings around before retreating.
The special military operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, continues. The decision to hold it was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military, in connection with which the authorities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics turned to Moscow for help.
