The fighters who liberated Lisichansk in the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) told Izvestia correspondent Dmitry Zimenkin how they defend their native land and what they hope for in the near future.
“Here is the church of St. Mitrofan of Voronezh, which burned down on June 26, 2022. According to parishioners, two soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with huge backpacks came there at night, after which a fire broke out. Locals believe it happened by accident. However, on June 26, according to the church calendar, the Cathedral of All Saints, who shone in the Russian land, is celebrated, which makes it difficult to consider the burnt church as an accident, ”the correspondent said.
The commander of one of the battalions of the Russian army, callsign Flint, said that he was defending his native city with a special feeling. He admitted that he was unable to understand those who sit at home.
“Why am I here, and why on the 41st our grandfathers got up and went. My great-grandfather, eight children, got up and went. He was wounded near Warsaw… <...> Why should he be in a trench, but not? What is the difference, how do they differ? Flint argues.
A fighter with the call sign Malysh said that they are all equal: both privates and generals. “If we all fight with each other, then there will be no victory, but if like this, all together, in a fist, victory will be ours,” he is sure.
Most of the soldiers did not hold weapons before the start of the special operation. They had to learn everything in a combat situation, the fighters said, emphasizing that for each of them a feat is to be in defense of their native land.
