Bengaluru/New Delhi: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, who left the BJP and joined the Congress during the last election, rejoined the BJP yesterday.
Senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar (67) was not given a seat to contest on the BJP’s behalf during last year’s assembly elections in Karnataka. Dissatisfied with this, he left the BJP and joined the Congress. He contested from Hubli-Dharwad Madhya seat and lost. Subsequently, Jagadish Shettar was given the post of MLC by the Congress leadership. With the Lok Sabha elections approaching, he expressed his desire to rejoin the BJP. In this regard, it was reported that he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and requested him to rejoin the party.
In this case, Jagadish Shetter rejoined the BJP under the leadership of BJP National President JP Natta in Delhi yesterday.
Then Jagadish Shettar said, “Basically I am an RSS Sevak. Politically, always support the BJP. The BJP top brass gave me posts befitting my work. I left the party due to some issue. Yeddyurappa and Vijayendra invited to rejoin BJP. So I have returned to my mother’s house.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, “We have given a seat to Jagadish Shettar, who was insulted by the BJP leadership. Even after losing the election, we gave him the post of MLC. “He has cheated the Congress which treated him with respect,” he said.
