Nai Brahmins participate in the Swami’s procession pallaki services as bhajantris and barbers in temples in the state and during special festivals. According to the recent ruling of the AP High Court, the Devadaya Department will appoint Trust Boards only in the temples with an income of more than five lakhs under the Devadaya Department. It seems that the total is up to 1,234. The appointment of governing body for some temples has already been completed.
Excluding the ones where the Trust Board appointments have been completed, another 610 temples are being worked on to appoint new Trust Boards in a few days. Of these, one Nai Brahmin for each temple has the opportunity to be appointed on the board of the trust. On the other hand, there are 1,121 Nayi Brahmins as barbers in 97 temples belonging to Devadayashakha. They are also working as Bhajantris in 1,169 temples. Another hundred ear piercers and 500 palanquin bearers are said to be performing duties.
Nai Brahmin communities have expressed happiness over the government’s issuance of the ordinance. He thanked Chief Minister Jagan. AP Nai Brahmin Corporation Chairman Yanadaiah said that Nai Brahmins have got a rare honor in the history of the country. Along with CM Jagan, Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan and Devadaya Minister Kottu Satyanarayana expressed gratitude. He said that the YSRCP government has raised the self-esteem of Nai Brahmins to another level.
Apart from that, the AP government has also taken another important decision regarding the Nai Brahmins in the past. Nai has issued a decree banning words derogatory to Brahmins and their caste. Words like Mangali, Mangaloda, Buchgorigevada, Mangalidi, Konda Mangali should not be used in the state. If anyone uses it as hurt their sentiments then legal action under Indian Penal Code 1860 is not permissible.
