Colombo: Former Sri Lanka Cricket Team Captain Arjuna Ranatunga has accused Jai Shah of running the Sri Lanka Cricket Board.
The Sri Lankan team is out of the current World Cup series with a heavy defeat. Won only 2 out of 9 matches played. In the match against India, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 55 runs and lost badly by 302 runs. After this defeat, beyond the harsh criticism, problems erupted in the Sri Lankan Cricket Board.
A few days ago, the Sri Lankan government announced that it had dissolved the Cricket Board. The government also appointed a seven-member interim team headed by former World Cup-winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga to look after the team’s management. The announcement was made formally by the sports department of the country.
In this context, the ICC has suspended the Sri Lankan team. “The Sri Lankan Cricket Board, a full-time member of the ICC, seems to be operating in defiance of the rules. So we have suspended the Grachika Board. We decided this in today’s meeting. The affairs of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board should be managed autonomously. Also, there is a need to ensure that there is no government interference,” the ICC said.
The former captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team, Arjuna Ranatunga, has created a new sensation within this matter. Arjuna Ranatunga has made allegations against Jai Shah, the Secretary of the Indian Cricket Board. It said, “Due to the connection between Sri Lankan Cricket Board officials and Jay Shah, they (BCCI) are under the impression that they can crush the Sri Lankan Cricket Board and keep them under their control.
Jay Shaw is running Sri Lankan cricket. Sri Lankan cricket is dying because of Jai Shah’s pressure. A man in India is ruining Sri Lankan cricket. Jai Shah is a powerful person as his father Amit Shah is the Home Minister of India,” he alleged.
