The British singer James Morrison (39, “You Give Me Something”) mourns the death of his wife. As British media report, Gill Catchpole (45) was found dead on Friday in the house they shared in Whitminster (almost 180 km west of London).
For the musician, a world collapses like “ Daily Mail “ reported. He had been with the mother of his two daughters Elsie (15) and Ada (5) since he was 17 years old.
A strong relationship in which the family went through a lot. Both daughters were born under the most difficult conditions: Elsie’s umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck; Ada was born 13 weeks premature.
James Morrison is now alone with his two daughters Elsie and Ada
The circumstances surrounding the birth of the second daughter were particularly hard on mother and father – and inspired Morrison to write the title of his current album “You’re Stronger Than You Know” (German: You are stronger than you think, 2019). After Ada’s premature birth, he called his wife a hero.
Morrison said at the time: “I’m still in awe of how she got through that. She is my rock. I could never replace her.”
The whole village is in shock
Initial reports suggested that Catchpole died of natural causes, with family friends telling The Sun newspaper: “James is devastated and is being supported by his family. He is pulling himself together for the girls, but has asked that the family be left alone so they can grieve in peace.” Local residents reported that the entire village was in “complete shock.”
For Morrison, the early death of his wife was the next terrible blow of fate: within just three years he lost his father Paul, his older brother Alexis and his nephew Callum. Morrison’s debut album Undiscovered (2006) went five times platinum in the UK. The following albums were similarly successful – with “The Awakening” (2011) he even reached number 1 in the charts.
