Along with come fake messages. In the last few days, there has been a flood of this on WhatsApp. Users are narrating their woes on Twitter.
Meta-owned WhatsApp has around 500 million users in India.

One Saurabh Mathur tweeted, WhatsApp business was a big mistake. Brian Acton (co-founder of WhatsApp) has been proved right.
Although the mobile numbers show the country codes of Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Ethiopia, it is not necessary that these calls are actually coming from these countries.
Most of these calls come from Plus251 (Ethiopia), Plus62 (Indonesia), Plus254 (Kenya), Plus84 (Vietnam) and other countries.
A user tweeted: Every day I keep getting missed calls on WhatsApp from unknown numbers from different parts of the world. It’s so bad I have to put my phone on silent.
WhatsApp has not yet responded to the growing number of fake spam calls on its platform.
Posted by Shivam Vij, a freelance journalist based in New Delhi, it is the same here. Looks like an Pandemic. Atdatewhatsapp only needs to allow us to receive calls from our contacts.
