The national adult jiu-jitsu team won the eighth edition of the Asian Championship and retained its title for the fourth year in a row.
The tournament will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, at the Mubadala Arena, with the participation of 1,500 players, both male and female, from more than 30 countries.
Yesterday, during the third day’s competitions, the UAE champions succeeded in adding seven colored medals (three gold, three silver, and a bronze) in the 85, 94, and over 94 kg weights for men, and the 63 kg and over 70 kg weights for women, raising the country’s tally to 18 medals (six gold, Seven silver and five bronze).
The gold medals were won by: Hazza Farhan, weighing 94 kg, Saeed Al Kubaisi, weighing 85 kg, and Shamma Al Kalbani, weighing 63 kg, while the silver medal was won by Bashayer Al Matroushi, weight 63 kg, Farraj Al Awlaki, weight 85 kg, and Abdullah Al Kubaisi, weight 94 kg, while Ammar Al Hosani won. Bronze, weight 94 kg.
Vice President of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, expressed his pride in the national team’s achievements and its adherence to the summit by retaining the title for the fourth year in a row.
He stressed that the efforts and sacrifices made by the national team players and the technical staff at various levels during the past weeks have paid off.
Today, the tournament witnesses the launch of competitions in the youth and junior categories for the first time in the history of the tournament, with the participation of more than 800 male and female players, and the UAE national team is participating in the competitions with more than 100 male and female players.
