New Zealand actor Sam Neill is being treated for blood cancer. The 75-year-old actor, known for the Jurassic Parkfilms, talks about his illness in his autobiography that will be published next week.
In his first chapter, Neill shares the diagnosis with the reader. “I might be dying, maybe I should hurry,” he writes. The actor is currently cancer-free, but remains under treatment with medication.
The actor has given an interview about the book to the British newspaper The Guardian, who published the conversation Friday night. In the conversation, Neill says that he started writing his biography during the treatment. “I couldn’t work, I hardly met people,” he says. “And then I thought: what am I going to do every day? I never intended to write a book. But when I started I found it became a reason for me to keep on living. I went to bed every day thinking: tomorrow I will continue writing.”
Neill discovered early 2022 during the promotion of the sixth Jurassic Park-movie Dominion that he was sick. At first, the actor received chemotherapy. But when it didn’t work, he signed up for a new experimental drug that he now has to take monthly for the rest of his life. According to doctors, he is now cancer-free.
