The Italian club Juventus, just two days after winning the Italian Cup, decided to dismiss its coach, Massimiliano Allegri, one year before the end of his contract, according to what the club officially announced.
Juventus said that it had decided to separate from Allegri, who faced a lot of pressure due to the team’s declining results in the local league, due to the “behavior” of the coach who was expelled in the cup final against Atalanta and attacked the referees and even the club’s sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, and the managing editor of the “Tuttosport” sports newspaper.
Juventus explained in the statement issued after Allegri summoned him to an emergency meeting at the club’s headquarters in Continassa, that “the dismissal comes after certain behavior during and after the Italian Cup final, which the club considered inconsistent with Juventus’ values and with the behavior that should be adopted by those who represent it.”
Therefore, “the period of cooperation that began in 2014 and resumed in 2021 ends and ended after the last three seasons together by winning the Italian Cup final,” wishing “Massimiliano Allegri success in his future projects.”
Allegri was suspended for two matches after being sent off in the cup final, which Juventus won 1-0 over Atalanta on Wednesday, and the Italian Football Federation’s Disciplinary Committee justified its decision by referring in particular to his “aggressive behavior towards the fourth official,” in addition to his “return to the field after being sent off for inappropriate behavior.” Respectful towards the referees.” Allegri threw his shirt and tie on the field and shouted at the fourth official during the final minutes of the match.
The 56-year-old coach sarcastically clapped in the face of the main referee after he was sent off in the fifth minute of stoppage time at the end of the match, then approached the fourth official in a threatening manner.
Allegri left the field four minutes before the referee blew his final whistle, before returning to celebrate with the players.
Not only did Allegri attack the referees, but video clips showed him attacking the club’s sporting director Giuntoli on the field after the end of the match, and he also threatened the Tuttosport editor-in-chief on his way to the press conference.
Local media have been talking for weeks about the dismissal of Allegri, whose contract expires in the summer of 2025, and the possibility of signing Thiago Motta, who had an exceptional season with Bologna and led them to qualify for the Champions League.
Juventus had declined significantly in terms of results in the recent period, as it tied five consecutive matches in the league and lost the second leg of the cup semi-final to Lazio 1-2, but it qualified for the final by benefiting from its 2-0 victory in the first leg.
The “Old Lady” team, which secured its qualification to the Champions League, occupies fourth place with 67 points, on goal difference from third-placed Bologna, with whom it plays on Monday in the 37th penultimate stage.
Allegri leaves Juventus with five league titles with the Turin giants and the same cup, in addition to winning the local Super Cup twice and reaching the Champions League final in 2014 and 2017, that is, during his first period, which extended between 2014 and 2019, before returning again in 2021.
