Changed the mind set
“‘Sagara Sangam’ is an undisputed classic among Vishwanath’s movies. As far as Telugu cinema has been alive as far as I know. Now after ‘Mayabazaar’ we cannot talk about Telugu cinema without noting and quoting movies like ‘Lavakusa’, ‘Sankarabharanam’ and ‘Sagara Sangam’. Be sure to quote them.
Why should they be quoted? It’s not that they were commercial successes, played more days, or brought more money. These are the movies that changed the way of making movies and the way of watching movies. That is, the mind set of the viewer has changed. The directors who shoot or the rest of the technicians, the producers who invest money, the distributors who buy, the exhibitors who exhibit… have also changed their thinking patterns. Rarely do movies that change that happen. Such movies are the same for 10-15 years. Vishwanath made 10 such films. They basically mean that one or the other can be taken out of the total life time. The great thing is to pick up the latter. That’s all it takes to pick one up. He took ten such things. We will be talking about this even in 150 years.”
