The attack took place on Friday at the Kaj Higher Education Center in an area dominated by the Hazara community, a minority Shia community in Afghanistan. In the first phase, 43 people were killed. This later increased to 53. 110 people were injured. No one has taken responsibility for the incident. Terrorist group IS has carried out attacks in the region in the past, targeting girls, schools and mosques.
After the attack, protests led by women have also arisen in Kabul and other cities. Women protested at the place of attack raising slogans like ‘Stop Hazara Genocide, Being a Shia is not a crime’. Then the intervening Taliban forces dispersed the crowd by firing into the air and beating them. Meanwhile, there was also an attack in the western part of Kabul on Monday. Another attack took place in the Pul-e-Sukhta area near Shaheed Road, where the Hazara community lives. No further information has been released.
