New Delhi. Giving a big blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) before next year’s assembly elections in Delhi, Kailash Gehlot has joined the BJP. Senior AAP leader Kailash Gehlot, who was the Transport Minister of Delhi, left the party on Sunday (November 17). He alleged that the party’s commitment to the people has taken a back seat to its political ambitions.
He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday (November 18), 24 hours after resigning from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Kailash Gehlot took membership of the BJP in the presence of senior leaders Manohar Lal Khattar, Harsh Malhotra and Dushyant Gautam at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi.
Kailash Gehlot said that the narrative being created that I have left Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) under pressure from ED or CBI is wrong. I am a lawyer by profession. I left my law practice and joined the Aam Aadmi Party because we saw hope in a person in a party. My only aim was to serve the people.
Earlier, in his resignation letter sent to former Delhi CM and AAP coordinator Arvind Kejriwal, Kailash Gehlot had said that “instead of fighting for the rights of the people, we are only fighting for our political agenda.” Taking a dig at former Delhi CM Kejriwal, Gehlot also mentioned some ‘shameful’ controversies like ‘Sheeshmahal’ and said that this makes everyone doubt whether we still consider ourselves as ‘common man’.
