—I don’t know if it’s a show, right now I’m just landing my dream and making it real, I already have the songs, there are three songs that I have at the moment and I hope there will be more soon… I can tell stories, I can go read the story to them , I can sing the songs to you.
—And do you plan to release a second book? Because at the end of the book ‘Káricá’ finds another animal that helps.
—He finds a pink dolphin that is in danger of extinction, so he is going to start an adventure with him.
Karina Rivera and her career as a children’s presenter
—How does it feel to connect with a generation of children that is different from the one that watched your programs a decade ago?
—Oh, 30 years now, 30 years (laughs) It’s nice to know that that audience that followed Karina and Timoteo, continues with me, is always waiting to know what we are going to do. And today they are finding out that this baby is being born, ‘Karicá and the wonderful hummingbird ‘. I value that audience, I thank them and I always try to help them in whatever way I can. In this case, telling them a real story, through a fairy, a real story that really needs us.
—This is your third year doing a circus in July with Timoteo, did you expect this reception from people after so many years away from television screens?
—No, I was really afraid. The first day we started with the circus a lot of things happened because it was the year my mother died and I thought that few people would go, that those who had seen us there and who loved us there… I never imagined seeing the videos of people crying with emotion because we brought back memories of their childhood. Whether it was the person they watched the show with, or what they were experiencing at the time. So, the response from the public has been very nice, it has been very gratifying for us… and that is why 30 years will mean the world.
—So, are there plans for the program’s 30-year anniversary?
—Yes, there are very nice plans, the same circus is going to be the celebration of the 30 years.
—And it’s been a while since we’ve seen children’s programs on open television, what is your opinion about it? Do you have any plans to return to broadcast television?
—Television right now is difficult for the children’s world, because unfortunately television lives off of sponsorships, right? So, that is understood and respected, and you cannot show a child products that they should not have or consume or have at home. We must not make them consumerist. So, I understand the position of the channels.
You can find ‘Karicá and the wonderful hummingbird ‘ in all bookstores in the country, also through the Planeta de Libros website. And if you want to buy the book abroad, you can purchase it through Buscalibre.
