Bangalore: About 200 years old Gnanayokesrama Mutt is located in Vijayapura, Karnataka. Chitheswar Swamy (81), who was the abbot of this Mutt, was a great spiritualist and an excellent orator. Along with spiritual work, he also ran schools, colleges and hospitals for the poor. Thousands of devotees come to his mutt not only from Karnataka but also from Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
In this case, last week, Chitheswar Swami fell ill. He was being treated at the monastery for the past one week. In this case, Chitheswar Swamy passed away last night without treatment. Political leaders and thousands of devotees paid tribute to his body yesterday.
Subsequently, Chitheswar Swamy’s body was cremated at Gnanayokesrama Math yesterday evening. Leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bummy condoled his death.
