The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has conducted a thorough investigation into the case and gathered all the evidence needed to convict Yasin Malik. The NIA has identified Yasin Malik, the leader of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKL), as having a role in committing terrorist acts, raising funds for terrorism, planning and carrying out terrorist attacks. A chargesheet has been filed seeking the death penalty for Yasin Malik, who was convicted of several violent and illegal activities. Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed, Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin and other separatist leaders were also named in the chargesheet filed by the NIA in the case.
The NIA court has tried him on charges of disturbing the peace in Kashmir, treason, waging war against the country, criminal conspiracy and other illegal activities. The court directed the NIA to find out Yasin Malik’s financial situation and issue an affidavit regarding his assets.
Amicus Curie, who was appointed by the court to argue on behalf of Yassin Malik, recommended that he be sentenced to life imprisonment. Yasin Malik has admitted all the charges against him in the terror funding case.
