The temple is closed every year in winter and reopened in summer. The temple was closed on November 7 last year. Due to the corona, restrictions have been imposed on darshans at the Kedarnath temple for the past two years. The Badrinath, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Yamunotri temples in the Himalayas are closed due to the winter winds and snowfall in the north. The temples are closed after the traditional pujas. The idols of Kedarnath are kept in Ukhimath for the winter stay and worship is performed.
Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri and Gangotri temples are also known as Chardham. The Chardham Yatra is held annually from summer to early winter. Travel is only allowed for six months. The trip usually starts clockwise. First the Yamunotri temple and then the Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath temples respectively. The Yamunotri and Gangotri temples will open on the third day of Akshaya. The Kedareshwara temple will open on Friday, May 6. The Badrinath temple will open on Sunday.
The trip, which has not been very noisy for two years due to the corona, will be fully operational this year. The Uttarakhand government has made arrangements to reduce this. Corona regulations allow only 12,000 people per day in Kedarnath, 15,000 in Badrinath, 7,000 in Gangotri and 4,000 in Yamunotri.
