The January transfer window is also open when the ISL 2023-24 season goes into international break. The winter transfer window has opened just in time for Kerala Blasters. With some of the key players out due to injury, the transfer window has opened, giving the Yellow Army a great opportunity to acquire replacement players.
Kerala Blasters need two players mainly. One of which is naturally the replacement of captain Adrian Luna. Adrian Luna injured his knee while training ahead of last month’s game against Punjab FC. Following this, the Uruguayan player underwent surgery in Mumbai and is currently resting in the country.
With Adrian Luna almost certain to not play again this season, it is imperative to bring in a replacement. It is reported that the team management has started the moves for this. Blasters coach Ivan Vukomanovic has already hinted that a replacement for Luna may come, but a foreign player will join Blasters this month anyway. Meanwhile, there were some indications that Kerala Blasters are looking at former FC Goa player Ikar Guaratsena as a replacement for Luna, but it is certain that this will not happen.
At the same time, like bringing in a replacement for Adrian Luna, Kerala Blasters should think seriously about increasing the strength of the center midfield. Jackson Singh and Freddy Lalammava, who were the strength of the team in the midfield, are in the grip of injuries. Vibin Mohanan also suffered an injury during the game against Mumbai City which made matters worse in the Yellow Army’s midfield.
This time, Kerala Blasters are aiming for the ISL title and the league shield. To get there it is imperative to have good backups at every position. There is no doubt that Kerala Blasters’ strength will double if they get a top Indian signing in the midfield (centre midfield) in the January transfer window.
Indian Super League matches will be held in February. Before that, Kerala Blasters will play in the Kalinga Super Cup. Kerala Blasters are in Group B of the tournament to be held in Bhubaneswar. Along with the Yellow Army, I-League side Shillong Lajong, ISL sides Jamshedpur FC and Northeast United FC are in the group. The first match for Kerala Blasters is against Shillong on January 10 at 2 pm. Kerala Blasters will play against Jamshedpur FC on 15th at 7.30 pm and Northeast United on 20th January.
