The corporation is already launching a health drink called Cashew Vita. It is a low fat cholesterol free health drink.
Currently, the new product is being launched for children up to 10 years of age. This is a specially customized product for children. Presently Cashew Corporation has submitted a project related to this product to the government. This new product has been tested in five different labs under Govt.
Years ago, a similar project was implemented in Kollam district. Through this, it was possible to prevent the problem of malnutrition in children. Also, it was possible to solve the problems of malnutrition among pregnant women from the tribal community.
Cashew nuts were included in the kits then. After delivery, kits containing cashew were distributed for three consecutive years. It was also possible to bring down the infant mortality rate in tribal groups. Due to this, it was possible to bring the deaths due to malnutrition in children and mothers to zero level.
There are various value added products under Cashew Corporation. But the newly introduced children’s Vita is expected to boost the entire industry.
The cashew industry is facing a severe crisis. Stable demand and bulk orders are key to the sector’s journey forward.
Recently state-run factories under the Cashew Development Corporation and the Kerala State Cashew Workers Apex Industrial Cooperative Society (CAPEX) provided about 87 lakh sachet packets to be included in the Onam kit.
Apart from being a nutritious product, the new product is also expected to strengthen the local market. At present, there is a situation where people use mechanized and low quality cashew products.
Currently, Cashew Corporation’s factories can produce 2.5 lakh kg of cashews in 10 days. Therefore, the corporation believes that creative ideas like Children’s Vita will help the industry to survive.
