In the Khabarovsk Territory, a criminal case on illegal sturgeon and chum salmon hunting has been sent to court. The defendant stated that he was engaged in fishing for personal consumption.
AmurMedia news agency in the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the region was told that in September of this year, during the operational and preventive operation “Putin-2022”, the police detained a 45-year-old man on a motorboat in the Amur River. With the help of a fishing net, he was engaged in catching fish without special permits.
The police found 11 specimens of fish in him: chum salmon and one specimen of the Amur sturgeon. The fisherman himself claimed that he fished for himself. He knew that the sturgeon was listed in the Red Book of Russia, but decided to keep it anyway.
Ketu was destroyed, and the sturgeon was released into its natural habitat. The total damage from the actions of the violator was estimated at an amount exceeding 277 thousand rubles.
On the fact of the incident, a criminal case was opened under two articles: “Illegal extraction of especially valuable aquatic biological resources belonging to species listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation” and “Illegal extraction of aquatic biological resources, committed with major damage.”
At the end of September, it was reported that 50 facts of illegal extraction and trafficking of aquatic biological resources were recorded in the Magadan region during the season. 25 tons of fish products were withdrawn from circulation.
