A video that has gone viral on social media shows a pro-Khalistan member preventing Vikram Doraiswamy from entering the Glasgow Gurdwara on Albert Drive.
Two persons were standing near the high commissioner’s car in the park area. One of them was seen trying to open a locked car door from inside in a video posted by an Instagram channel called ‘Sikh Youth UK’. Later, the High Commissioner’s car left the Gurdwara premises.
The Gurdwara Management Committee had invited the High Commissioner of India. In this video, Khalistan militants are also seen threatening the Gurdwara Management Committee staff.
The Indian government did not immediately give an official response to this. Sources said that a complaint has been lodged with the police as this is a matter related to the security of the High Commissioner.
“Doraiswamy was prevented from entering the Glasgow Gurdwara by some fundamentalists on Friday. Rather than engage in an argument, the Indian High Commissioner decided to leave,” a government source said.
British Sikh activists with pro-Khalistani leanings reportedly interrupted Doraiswamy and told him, ‘You are not welcome here’. A pro-Khalistani activist said that some people knew that Doraiswamy had intended to hold a meeting with the Gurdwara Committee.
“Some people went there and told you that you are not welcome. There was a small confrontation. I think the Gurdwara Committee is upset about the incident. But Indian authorities are not welcome in any Gurdwara in Britain,” he said.
“We are fed up with British-Indian tactics. In the recent tense situations after the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, British Sikhs have been targeted. This is also the case with Avtar Singh Khanda and Jagtar Singh Johal,” he said.
“They are causing pain to Sikhs in Canada and other places. Every Sikh should protest to all Indian ambassadors like we did in Glasgow,” he said.
