The clubs of the Continental Hockey League (KHL) and the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR) are inclined to continue holding the regular season. This was announced on Tuesday, January 11, by the president of the KHL Alexei Morozov.
“We discussed our situation with the clubs and the FHR, we have a large increase in coronavirus cases. We have already canceled 14 matches, the growth over the last week is very significant. The VHL and MHL teams are ill, and our championship is hard to hold. But all the clubs said they wanted to play, ”he told reporters.
He noted that the KHL and FHR are inclined to believe that the championship should be continued in an honest sports fight.
“Maybe some of the clubs were embarrassed to speak out for now, so we’ll still interview them. So far we have decided that everyone who is ready to play will play, ”he said.
Morozov stressed that COVID-19 measures regarding the behavior of players in arenas and hotels will be tightened, as it is necessary to continue the season.
According to the KHL, as of January 11, 126 positive results of PCR tests for COVID-19 were recorded in the clubs of the league, of which 97 were in hockey players.
On the night of January 10, “Sport-Express” announced that the KHL may suspend the current regular season due to the growing number of hockey players with positive PCR tests.
Currently, Avtomobilist (Yekaterinburg), Salavat Yulaev (Ufa), CSKA Moscow, Dynamo (Riga) and Torpedo (Nizhny Novgorod) are in quarantine.
In total, since the beginning of the season, the KHL has postponed 15 matches, of which 14 in 2022.
