In East Godavari district
The Konaseema region is very special. Coconut trees can be seen everywhere in the Konaseema known as Andhra Kerala. Godavari streams, baby canals, lush green fields .. these endless beauties look like earthly paradise. The people of Konaseema have been very careful in preserving many ancient traditions that have been forgotten by modern society. Many villages attract tourists with their beautiful beauties. One such village is ‘Pora’, a fishing village in the Katrenikona zone of East Godavari district.
Pora village is located at a distance of 8 km from Katrenikona, about 50 km from Kakinada and 30 km from Amalapuram. There is water all around and the town is in the middle. The village is surrounded by mangrove forests that seem to be thrown out of the world. In every house there are small rooms lined with mud, dung and flour. There are three temples in the village. While two temples are in the water inside the mangrove forests … one temple is located near the cyclone protection camp on the outskirts of the village.
On normal days no one goes to the eggs. Images of the deities in the three temples are kept and worshiped in homes. Every year on Durgashtami, idols of the deities are brought to the village and processions and fairs are organized to plant trees. The people of the village, which is about 300 gadapa, belong to the Agnikula Kshatriya caste. There will be no other castes. Everyone’s profession is fishing. Fishermen are the priests for the temples in the village.
Another specialty is the Brahma Samedyam temple in the middle of the Godavari river near the village of Pora. This is the temple of Brahma. It is one of the only two temples dedicated to Lord Brahma in the country. However, apart from the idol of Brahma, only the feet are present. Devotees bathe in the sea at sunrise and bathe in the Godavari stream at sunset to visit Lord Brahma. Strangely there are no daily worships here either. Pujas are performed here only on the day of Ardhodaya Mahodaya, which falls every eight years.
Tourists can be disappointed if they come to see this one town. There is a lighthouse with 250 steps if you go inwards from the perimeter of the membrane. It was built by the British rulers in 1895 to pave the way for ships sailing near the area. Climb up this lighthouse to see the cruise ships, ONGC drilling platforms and other natural beauty. Apart from these, one can also see the surrounding Kundaleswaram Gudi, Godari Ghat, Godavari in Pallankur, the beach in the adjoining Pallam village and Komagiri Patnam beach if you go a little further.
