Sports Desk. Indian Grandmaster Koneru Humpy has created history by winning the World Rapid Chess Championship in New York on Sunday. She won the World Rapid Chess Championship title for the second time by defeating Irene Sukandar of Indonesia. She is the first Indian female chess player to do so.
Humpy had earlier won this title in Moscow in 2019 also. This is his second title win in this format. Hampi has become the second chess player after China’s Xu Wenjun to win the title more than once in the women’s category. Koneru Humpy, 37, finished the tournament with a score of 8.5 out of 11. It was a decisive victory for the Indian Grandmaster. Russia’s 18-year-old Volodar Murzin won the title in the men’s category.
