Kovid: Birth rate in Kuwait has dropped sharply

Kuwait City: Birth rates throughout Kuwait have dropped dramatically already. In 2020, 50,409 people were born. Statistics show that it is the lowest in 15 years. The previous lowest birth rate was in 2005. 45459 people were born that year.

The birth rate was 2.9 percent lower than in 2019. That is a decrease of 1517 people. In 2019, 51,926 people were born in Kuwait. Of these, the Kuwaiti birth rate fell by 1.8 per cent and the expatriate birth rate by 4.69 per cent.

At the same time, figures released by the Ministry of Justice show that there has been a huge increase in the number of marriages in Kuwait during the Kovid period. The divorce rate has dropped significantly from the previous year. More than a thousand marriages were registered in 2020 compared to 2019. 12973 marriages took place in Kuwait last year. Of these, 82 percent were Kuwaiti marriages. 1044 Kuwaiti men married foreign women.

According to the ministry, the divorce rate has fallen sharply with the rise in the divorce rate. Compared to 2019, there are less than a thousand divorces. Of the total 5932 divorce cases registered during the period, 2953 involved natives. In other parts of the world, domestic strife, domestic violence and divorce are on the rise during the Kovid period. But 2020 is a year of happy family life for families in Kuwait, said Dr. Mohd.
