Kovid pandemic: 140,000 expatriates leave Kuwait labor market

Kuwait City: In the first year of the Kovid epidemic, 140,000 expatriates left the labor market in Kuwait, according to local media reports. The figures are from February 2020. About 39 per cent of those who have left the labor market are domestic workers.

Meanwhile, 11,000 Kuwaitis joined last year when expatriates left the labor market. Although many expatriates have left Kuwait, statistics show that the number of non-Kuwaitis will increase in 2020 compared to 2019.

The figures show that the total population of Kuwait has increased over the past year. The current population is 4.67 million, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics. Last year it was 4.464 million.
