PRISTINA (AA) – Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that during the “Pristina 2030” Mediterranean Games, Kosovo will host over 5,000 athletes from 25 member countries of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games, reports Anadolu.

“By mobilizing the entire government cabinet, and in cooperation with the Kosovo Olympic Committee, we gave the Republic of Kosovo the opportunity to organize the biggest international event in the history of our country. In partnership with Albania, this event is organized for the first time in a landlocked country. The Republic of Albania will allow us to use the coast of Durrës for the sport of sailing, which requires access to the sea,” Kurti said.
He stated that Kosovo will host over 5,000 athletes from 25 member countries of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games, including 18 European, two Asian and five African.
The prime minister said that the competitions in 23 sports will be held in the municipalities of Pristina, Gnilanje, Mitrovica, Gjakovica, Prizren, Uroševac, Pec, Glogovac, Skenderaj, Poduevo and Durrës.
He emphasized that the improvement and construction of the sports infrastructure was at the center of Kosovo’s application and victory for the organization of the Mediterranean Games in 2030, and the initial concept of this project included a total of 24 sports facilities.
Kurti stated that 10 sports facilities will be renovated, including the Palace of Youth and Sports in Pristina, as well as the construction of new facilities, a national stadium, a complex of Olympic swimming pools, a tennis complex and a shooting range.
“The organization of such events, in addition to being an opportunity to improve or modernize the public physical infrastructure, as well as to increase the state’s attention to the improvement of sports, also serves as a platform to strengthen our national image on the international stage, for economic development through sports tourism, but also the creation of new jobs,” said Kurti.
