The Kuwaiti team, the “host country,” reserved its place in the semi-finals of the 26th Gulf Championship, after being content with a positive draw, 1-1, against its Qatari counterpart, with a goal without a response, “Friday.”
The Omani national team topped the first group with “fair play” to qualify to face the winner from Saudi Arabia and Iraq on Saturday, while the Kuwaiti national team came in second place to advance to face Bahrain in the semi-finals.
The Kuwaiti national team presented two sides in that confrontation, and lost control in the first half to Al-Anabi, which was attended by its first threat from its player Ahmed Al-Rawi, who received a cross from Al-Moez Ali, while he was close to the goal, and put it over the crossbar.
Akram Afif’s movements caused repeated inconvenience to the Kuwaiti national team’s defense, and in one of the attempts he passed the ball to Moez Ali, but Mishari Al-Ghanem pushed it away from him at a perfect time.
Ahmed Al-Rawi returned to waste a golden opportunity for Al-Anabi to advance, when he was alone with the goal, but he put the ball next to the right post in a very strange way.
Youssef Abdel Razek scored a goal for Qatar from a cross ball sent by Akram Afif, but the whistle intervened and canceled the goal due to the Kuwaiti goalkeeper, Khaled Al-Rashidi, being obstructed, so the first half ended with a negative result.
The Kuwaiti team appeared better at the beginning of the second period, and Mohammed Dahham was able to threaten Qatar’s goal with a powerful shot that hit the net from outside.
The left post of Qatar’s goal prevented the Kuwaiti team from opening the scoring, after Mohammed Daham’s shot bounced into the arms of the goalkeeper, Salah Zakaria.
Muhammad Dahham brought good news to the Kuwaiti fans, by scoring the only goal of the match from a fixed kick that penetrated the human wall and settled to the left of the goalkeeper, “74”.
In stoppage time, Qatar succeeded in equalizing after Mohamed Muntari’s header “90+11”
