Srinagar. Voting is taking place for the third and final phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. In this, 39.18 lakh voters will decide the political fate of 415 candidates in 40 constituencies spread from the plains of Jammu to the mountains of Kashmir. Till 9 am today, 11.60 percent voting has taken place.
Long queues of people are forming outside the polling booth. Tight security arrangements have been made on the seats near the Pakistan border. For the third phase, voting is being held on 16 seats in four districts of Jammu division, Jammu, Samba, Udhampur and Kathua and three districts of Kashmir, Bandipora, Baramulla and Kupwara district. Sham Lal Sharma, BJP candidate from Jammu North constituency, casts his vote at a polling booth in Purkhu Government School, Jammu.
On security arrangements for voting in Sopore, SSP Divya D said that voting is going on since 7 am and till now everything is going smoothly. People are coming to vote in large numbers and we are expecting more participation than previous elections. Ghulam Nabi Azad, President of Democratic Progressive Azad Party in Jammu, said that I request all the voters to use their vote.
BJP candidate from Chenani Assembly constituency Balwant Singh Mankotiya visited the Government Medical College and Hospital and served tea to the people. BJP candidate from Chenani assembly constituency Balwant Singh Mankotia said that for us this is the temple, this is where our day starts. Even today, it is the day of voting, so our worship is done here…it is here that we ask everyone whether there is anything lacking in the arrangements. Our service has been going on continuously for the last 4-5 years…”
