Varanasi: Between Kashi and Tamil Nadu to commemorate the Kashi Tamil Sangam event ‘Kasi Tamil Sangam Express’ Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has announced that a new train service will be launched. He also expressed his appreciation to the team for successfully organizing the Kashi Tamil Sangam trip.
Earlier, he interacted with the 8th Tamil Nadu delegation who participated in the Kashi Tamil Sangam program. Then the group shared their experiences with the minister. They also explained and thanked them for the hospitality they received.
The Minister then appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Railways and the Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) team for making the event a success. He said such people-to-people exchange programs would create bonds in our traditions, knowledge and culture and increase intimacy. At the same time creating an understanding of heritage will further strengthen the ties between the people of these two regions, he said.

He also inspected the ongoing renovation project at Varanasi Junction railway station. He advised to plan the redevelopment of the railway station keeping in mind the future traffic congestion.
Inspecting the Varanasi railway station, the minister said, “In line with the Prime Minister’s vision of turning the station into an airport terminal, it is being redeveloped into a world-class railway station. Around Rs 7000 crore will be spent to make this railway station one of the best in the world.”
This restoration work is being planned and executed in advance keeping in mind the next 50 years. An integrated development plan will be undertaken at all railway stations in the region to facilitate greater passenger access to the railway stations in the Varanasi urban area. “Sleeper Vande Bharat trains will be launched soon to provide modern amenities to passengers,” he said.
As part of the country’s 75th Independence Day celebrations, the Ministry of Education has organized a month-long program called Kashi Tamil Sangam. Representatives from various quarters have been invited to witness the ceremony in Khasi. The Ministry of Railways and the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) are taking the participants to Kashi, Prayagraj and Ayodhya and providing hospitality to them.
