Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived on Sunday, February 5, on a working visit to Baghdad.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry will stay in the Iraqi capital for two days, this is the first stop on the regular tour of the high-ranking diplomat in the countries of the Middle East and Africa.
Lavrov is expected to visit Mali, Mauritania and Sudan next.
In Iraq, Lavrov will meet with President Abdel Latif Rashid, Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani and his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein. In addition, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry intends to meet with former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
It is expected that the parties will discuss issues of bilateral relations in the economic sphere, as well as international and regional issues. In particular, attention will be paid to the situation in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East.
