Sol | LG Electronics on Monday introduced wireless charging solutions for electric scooters, as the South Korean tech giant is eyeing to expand its presence in the mobility sector.
LG said it has set up electric scooter wireless charging stations in Bucion, west of Seoul, in partnership with local electric scooter sharing services (sharing service) provider KickGoing.
Both companies will verify the utility and safety of electric scooter wireless charging solutions for the next six months before expanding to Seoul and other areas.
As reported by the Yonhap news agency, LG stated that 20 wireless charging kickspots are currently available in five parking areas in Bucion and that they are installed with wireless charging receiver pads.
Both companies expect the latest solutions to increase efficiency and add more users to electric scooter sharing services. They plan to offer a price discount or special discount for users who bring their scooters to wireless charging stations.
LG, a board member of the Wireless Power Consortium, a multinational coalition in wireless power transfer technology, said it is also considering further synergies with KickGoing in relation to the personal mobility business.
KickGoing, run by local startup Olulo, started electric scooter sharing services in September 2018 and has added 1.2 million customers so far.
